Riding Etiquette
Safe, predictable, and inclusive group rides. Learn the cues and conventions we use every spin.
Principles
Agreed Conventions
- Follow all rules of the road.
- Regroup at the top of climbs.
- Ride at the slowest rider’s pace; no half-wheeling.
- Keep the agreed pace unless the whole group agrees to lift it.
- No dangerous sprints or surges; don’t endanger the group.
- Ride in pairs unless unsafe to do so (RSA guidance).
- Share the work on the front; we are generally no-drop.

Signals
Calls & Hand Signals
- “Surface” — rough tarmac ahead; point it out.
- “Hole/Glass” — loud call (left/right) and point to the hazard.
- “Car Up” — vehicle behind; “Car Down” — vehicle approaching front.
- “Slowing” — warn the group before braking or easing.
- “Rider Up” — rotate riders to the front smoothly.
- “Ease off, slow it down” — back it off to regroup.
- Be vocal so the back of the group has time to react.
